About 玉皇大帝 · 拜天公
The Jade Emperor (玉皇大帝 / 天公) is the supreme ruler of Heaven, governing all gods and the destiny of the world. His feast day is 正月初九 — 拜天公 (Bai Tian Gong), the grandest heaven-worship of the year, especially for the Hokkien: an altar is set with sugarcane and offerings, and incense is lit before dawn to honor Heaven for the year ahead.

The Jade Emperor presides over a celestial administration that mirrors the imperial one — with ministries, reports, promotions and demotions. Every other deity in this temple answers, ultimately, to him. That structure is not metaphor; it is how Chinese folk religion is actually organised.
His birthday, 天公誕, falls on the ninth day of the first lunar month and is one of the largest observances in Hokkien communities, celebrated at midnight with sugarcane and elaborate offerings.
Approaching him
Convention is to approach the Jade Emperor through the lesser gods rather than directly, as one would a court. The observance here follows that formality.
