Foot Reading 足相

足相 is the least known of the physiognomy arts. The arch, the toes, the heel and any markings on the sole are read for foundation, movement and the support a life is built on.

Foot Reading 足相

The feet are the roots of a person's fortune. Thick, fleshy soles and full heels carry wealth and ease; a high arch marks nobility; and a mole on the sole (富貴痣) is the famed “腳踏七星” — a rare sign of wealth and command.

📜 The lore of 足相 ›

In Chinese physiognomy the foot (足相) is read alongside face and palm. Fleshy, well-formed feet that “step firmly on the ground” (腳踏實地) signify a secure, prosperous life; the legendary emperors and generals were said to bear seven moles on the sole — “腳踏七星,能掌兵權” (one who steps on the stars commands armies). The heel governs your foundation and late-life wealth; the toes, your descendants and drive.

Reading the foundation

Where the face is read for character and the palm for the working life, the foot is read for foundation — the base a person stands on, their mobility, and their capacity to carry weight over time. It is the quietest of the four physiognomy arts and the least commercialised.

A high arch, a long second toe, a full heel and markings on the sole all carry established readings. In some regional traditions moles on the sole are considered highly auspicious, associated with authority and travel.

Common questions

Is this reflexology?

No. Reflexology maps organs to zones for therapeutic purposes. 足相 is physiognomy — reading form for character and fortune.

Which foot?

Both, read together. The convention is less rigid than for palmistry.

Does foot shape really mean anything?

Within the tradition, yes. Outside it, this is cultural interpretation and we present it as such.
